10 co-op games to play with friends on a cold winter night

Snow outside, friends on voice chat. Our picks of co-op games for winter evenings — from frozen survival and snowy off-roading to pure kitchen chaos.

A bear with glowing eyes chases a rescuer through a blizzard

When it gets dark at five and the wind is howling, the best plan is a group call and a game that needs everyone. We play a lot of co-op at Kronhold — it’s literally our job — so here are the games we keep coming back to on winter nights.

1. Valheim

A Viking survival sandbox for up to ten players. Build a longhouse, sail into storms and try to survive the Mountains biome without freezing. Few games make a shared base feel this much like home.

2. Don’t Starve Together

The gothic survival classic, with friends. Winter here is a proper threat: plan your food and warm clothes ahead or watch the whole camp freeze. Brutal, funny and great for long sessions.

3. SnowRunner

Slow, heavy off-roading through mud and snow, with co-op for up to four. Getting a truck through a frozen pass together, one winch at a time, is weirdly relaxing. (We may be biased about winches.)

4. Peak

A co-op climbing game about scaling a mountain together with grip, stamina and very questionable teamwork. Perfect for a group that likes to laugh at its own falls.

5. Deep Rock Galactic

Four space dwarves, procedurally generated caves and a lot of shouting. Ice-covered biomes, a strong team identity and one of the friendliest co-op communities around. Rock and stone!

6. It Takes Two

A two-player co-op adventure that constantly reinvents itself. Ideal if you’re playing with a partner or one close friend and want something story-driven and inventive.

7. Overcooked! 2

Kitchen chaos for up to four players, including levels set on ice. Short rounds, a lot of yelling, and the fastest way to discover who in your group can’t handle pressure.

8. Phasmophobia

Ghost hunting in a team of up to four. Turn the lights off, use real voice chat to talk to the spirits and try not to be the one who stays in the van.

9. Lethal Company

Scavenging abandoned moons for scrap with friends. Proximity voice chat turns every trip into a comedy — and every scream into a story.

10. Raft

Survive on a tiny raft in the middle of the ocean and expand it together. Not wintry at all — but if you’re tired of the cold, it’s a great escape.

And one more, coming in 2026: Summit’s Wrong

We’d be bad at this if we didn’t mention our own game. Summit’s Wrong is an online co-op mountain rescue for 1–4 friends: drive a battered 6×6 van up a blizzard-swept mountain, crank the winch by hand, dig, fit chains, tape the van back together and keep each other warm. Proximity voice chat moves your puppet’s mouth, so you’ll be shouting into the wind all night.

Learn more about Summit’s Wrong or join our Discord to hear about playtests first.
